Consultation Framework for the Licensing of Satellite-Based Internet Service Providers

The Turks and Caicos Islands Telecommunications Commission is initiating a consultation process to gather the views of stakeholders, the general public, and other interested parties regarding the establishment of a framework for licensing satellite-based internet service providers. Due to the ongoing poor quality of internet services experienced in the family islands and Grand Turk, some residents have turned to satellite operators like Starlink for internet access as an alternative. This growing trend is concerning, as it may have significant market implications. Recognizing the issue with the increasing uptake of this service, the Commission reached out to a specific satellite operator to inform them about the activities on the ground and further inquire about the status of regularizing its services in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
