WHEREAS, the Turks and Caicos Islands Telecommunications Commission (the “Commission”) issued an important Consultation Document related to the Proposed Competition Regulations (the “ConDoc”) that the Commission plans to recommend be enacted by Government.
NOW THEREFORE, the Commission announces the release for comments and consultation on the (the “ConDoc”). The purpose of the Proposed Competition Regulations is to provide a more comprehensive and unified competition legal framework for the telecommunications sector in TCI that reflects current internationally-accepted competition principles in a manner that is appropriate to the existing legal and administrative framework and proportionate to TCI’s relatively modest size. The Commission considers that the adoption of the Proposed Competition Regulations will serve to fill a long-standing gap in the regulatory framework in TCI and, in doing so, it will provide the Commission with the tools required to better promote competition and the interests of consumers in TCI. If enacted, these Regulations would be the ninth set of regulations to come into force under the Telecommunication Ordinance, and the first since 2008.
ACCORDINGLY, the Commission invites interested parties to provide their input and comments with respect to the issues raised in the (the “ConDoc”), which is available to the public on the Commission’s website at http://www.telecommission.tc. We strongly encourage persons to participate actively in this consultation process. Initial Responses are due on May 19, 2017 by 4pm and Reply Responses on June 14, 2017 by 4pm.
